12-bay rackmount NAS server from Synology RackStation

Synology has presented a high-speed, scalable RackStation RS3618xs storage server for enterprise customers. A rack-mount device has 12 drive bays. You can use traditional hard drives or solid-state solutions in the format of 3.5 or 2.5 inches with a Serial ATA 3.0 interface. The maximum supported internal capacity is 144 TB (12 × 12 TB). Hot-swappable drives are allowed.

The basis of the NAS-server is the processor Intel Xeon D-1521. This 14-nanometer chip contains four cores with the ability to simultaneously process up to eight instruction streams. The nominal clock frequency is 2.4 GHz, the frequency in the “turbo” mode reaches 2.7 GHz.

The device is equipped with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC UDIMM RAM, expandable up to 64 GB. Four RJ-45 1GbE LAN network ports, two USB 3.0 ports and two PCIe Gen3 x8 expansion slots are provided. The storage capacity can be increased to 432 TB by connecting two RX1217 (RP) modules, providing non-disruptive expansion of volumes. The storage dimensions are 692 × 430.5 × 88 mm, weight - 14.5 kg.
