Why it is better to use Linux for cloud computing
Cloud computing is the process of leasing computing facilities, storage for databases, applications on demand. Roughly speaking, you have the task of processing a large amount of data: this data needs to be stored somewhere and on something to process. Imagine that you have a huge database and several times a month, you need to generate some statistics based on this data. Yes, payment for data storage will be charged constantly, but payment for computing resources only as needed. Undoubtedly, Linux cloud server is more rational from the point of view of the money saving.
How does cloud computing work?
There is some kind of cloud provider like GoDaddy cloud servers. GoDaddy provides easy access to the server, storage, databases, as well as to various applications. All these resources are located on the equipment of this provider, which you will rent for your needs. The provider performs the maintenance of this equipment, and the client only distributes the necessary resources and makes the payment.
There are many options for using cloud computing. Consider only the most popular ones:
1. Websites: The cloud allows you to get reliable, cost-effective and highly scalable hosting for sites and other web applications. In the case of regular hosting, the user is given a choice of several rates. Changing the tariff plan, as a rule, means transferring the site to another server from a site downtime. It is not always possible to return back after raising the tariff plan. The transition to a higher tariff plan implies an increase in all resources and disk space, and RAM, etc. In the case of cloud computing, you can add only resources of a certain type. For example, during the holidays, the attendance of your online store has increased and additional RAM is needed is not a problem. You can add as much memory as you need. At the end of the holidays, you can return unnecessary resources to the pool and pay only for actually used ones.
2. Mobile services: using the cloud allows you to scale up to tens and even millions of users and cover the whole world. Real "Napoleonic" plans are possible only with the use of the cloud.
3. Business applications: as a rule, such applications require large resources. From an economic point of view, the construction of a data center is not efficient. First, it is expensive, and secondly, for a long time. Using cloud computing, you save both money (you don’t have any capital expenditures at all) and time. During the time needed to build a data center, an organization can earn as much as it would have planned to spend on its own data center.
4. Blockchain technology: this new kind of technology does not work at all without a cloud.
5. Internet of things: through flexible and simple scaling you can reach billions of devices around the world. To do this on your own hardware is expensive and time consuming.
6. High-performance scientific computing. Now it makes no sense to build a cluster, you can rent it quite inexpensively and pay only for real-time usage.
