How likely is it that your site will "fall" during the holidays?
Holidays are a special time for many areas of activity. For some companies it's a dead season, for others it's an opportunity to earn extra profit. People who are working with sites and hosting and in general IT infrastructure is also not easy. On the one hand, you want to relax, but on the other - there is an irrational fear that the most carefully set up system, working without interruptions for many months, will fall as soon as you will leave it without monitoring. What is interesting, often it happens. How can I afford to relax? One of solution is external monitoring of the availability of sites and servers.
Of course, everyone knows the laws of Murphy: if some muck can happen, then it will happen. Hosters do not need to be reminded of this again. In fact, of course, the average chance is the same as on the other days. But there are two "buts": firstly, the entire infrastructure remains unattended for a little longer than during the normal weekend, and all employees are on holidays; Secondly, suddenly it may turn out that at the end of the year a lot of automatic actions are planned, for example, an annual backup or the construction of annual reports, which slightly increase the chances of failure.
But there is a very real threat. Often hackers plan their attacks on holidays. The reason can be different: they expect for a long time of reaction, peak loads on systems in certain areas of business, etc. There are more commonplace reasons. For example, you can forget to pay hosting services or other related services. Such as an SSL certificate. All employees during their vocation do not like to read the work mail, as a result of a reminder about the expiration of the validity period of the domain or the certificate, you can accidentally blink.
To solve such problems, there are external monitoring services that have the opportunity to notify the right person even in the way that is available during the holidays.
