What is a domain name and how to use it?
A domain name is, in fact, an analogue of a physical address in reality, since it means a certain location of a web resource on the network. Using a domain name, it becomes possible to identify a website or email address on the Internet.
In the era of the Internet, site builders knew that domain names were just 4 numbers separated by a dot. For example, the name cityhost.ua could look like this - 77.120.99.39. Of course, it’s easier for a person to perceive and remember understandable and logical words, because today we see just such domains.
A domain name can consist of letters, numbers, and special characters. The maximum length of the name is 63 characters, and the full length of the address of the page of the site along with dots, subdomain, first level domain is 255 characters.
Domain Name Levels
The domain name is divided into several levels, which are considered from the end of the name:
Zero (root) is “.” (Period), which is not written in the address bar, because processing without it is possible.
The first (top) is the domain zone, it is placed after the last dot of the site name.
The second (main) - consists of two parts. This is either the names of sites registered in the top-level domain, or regional domain zones.
The third (subdomain) - this can be the names of sites registered in the second level domain, or the use of an additional name for the section of the main site.
How to choose and register a domain?
Today, selecting and registering a domain is a simple and short-lived procedure. On the website of any official registrar there is a service for checking the name you invented for employment - you enter the domain in the verification line (with or without a domain zone) and after a couple of seconds you know if the domain is free for registration.
As a rule, it takes the most time to come up with a suitable name for the site. It is worthwhile to think over the main points well, as changing the domain in the future will not be so easy.
Well, if the domain name includes the name of your company, then it will be easier for customers to remember it. And the site address itself will look more solid, increasing the awareness of your brand.
The name should be easy to remember, easy to read and pronounce, without complex turns and additional characters.
The name may be associated with the activities of the company
Choose the most appropriate domain zone. Now there are many thematic domain zones, you can choose the one that matches the theme of your site - for example, .hotel, .photo, .travel, etc.
The registration process itself does not take much time. In a special registration form, you must enter your data, most often registrars request a name, email and phone number.
Be careful when entering this information, the registrar may offer to automatically register the selected domain to the indicated full name. If you register a domain for yourself - everything is in order. But if the site being created under this domain will belong, for example, to your client or just a friend whom you undertook to help, do not confuse the account profile in the registrar service and the profile of the direct owner of the domain. Register the domain only with the site owner in order to avoid further misunderstandings and protect the site from unscrupulous competitors.
