VPN service free: there is a catch
If you carefully study the offers of various companies, you will notice that each free package has a small catch. The most common option is traffic restriction. For example, the convenient and friendly TunnelBear, which we wrote about yesterday, gives the user only 500 free megabytes per month. Offers like Windscribe or ZPN are more generous, they offer 10 GB per month.
Opera has an unlimited built-in VPN, but this VPN only works with web pages. In other words, you can bypass the lock using Opera, but you won’t let third-party applications like game clients or torrent trackers through this tunnel. Of course, torrents in Ukraine work without any problems. But, for example, in the United States, where users are forced to hide illegal downloads from the provider, Opera alone can not do without it - you will have to use a full-size paid VPN.
By the way, the restriction on the type of traffic is characteristic of many shareware VPN services. For example, ZPN, although it allocates 10 GB of free traffic per month to a user, does not allow using it to transmit P2P data. That is, such a VPN is only suitable for gaining access to any information resources.
VPN services designed for use on mobile devices are also not without drawbacks. The popular Hola application uses you as an access point. Simply put, while you access the Internet through some user from the Netherlands, some Chinese is sitting on the Internet through you. The exchange is fairly fair, but this can adversely affect the data transfer speed.
Another unpleasant restriction that is present in many VPN service free offers is the restriction in choosing the country with which you will go online. Not all countries work well with certain resources. For example, if it’s good to look at Russian sites through Dutch or German servers, then access to services like Spotify should be carried out from the United States. Alas, very often a free VPN offers the user a limited list of countries.
