Seven digital shocks that making CIO difficulties
Identification of emotions
Today, low-cost sensors are capable of reading physical biometric data, and organizations are working to provide ultra-personalized digital services. Gartner predicts that by 2024, more than half of the online advertisements shown to a particular person will be determined based on the identification of emotions with artificial intelligence.
This technology will find application not only in marketing, but also, for example, in HR to evaluate employees.
AI: decency, trust and ethics
How do we know that AI makes honest decisions if there are many examples of dubious results demonstrating bias? What about false news and fake videos with the substitution of faces and votes? Plummer believes that this will destroy trust, change the certification of developers and audit rules. Gartner predicts that by 2023, at least four of the G7 member states will create a self-regulatory association to oversee AI designers and machine learning.
CIOs should define principles that establish a framework for AI trust for developers and users.
Distributed cloud
According to Plummer, in its simplest form, this means that the responsibility for the cloud will be vested entirely with the provider. About 75% of private clouds will not work long, because home-made clouds are inferior to public clouds in terms of capabilities and quality. Openshift, Cloud Foundry and Azure Stack lead us to create distributed clouds, the expert said.
This trend will affect private and hybrid clouds, as well as data placement.
Outer Space Democratization
Delivery of a man to the moon cost 4% of the US state budget. And putting a satellite into orbit now costs only 300 thousand dollars. This has led to the fact that hundreds of satellites rotate in low orbits. In space, nations and companies will compete. The cheaper the satellite’s launch, the closer it will be in orbits. There are a lot of new questions. What rules apply to the placement of data in space? Which law should apply? What to do with crimes in space?
When the deployment of computing power in space becomes a reality, technology providers will need to explore options for maintaining communication with low-orbit satellites.
Man padded
Technologies such as microchips and storage devices will be integrated into the human body. This will lead to revolutionary changes such as PC thinking, brain-computer interfaces, and telepathic communication.
Technological biohacking
What if the disease can be diagnosed by the patient’s voice? Or if lovers can develop drugs? The doctor’s diagnosis will remain in the past, the regulation of the procedure for creating drugs will change.
CIOs should prepare for new types of security, new data ownership policies, and constraints on built-in enhancements.
DNA data storage
DNA-encoded data overcomes the limitations of current storage technology, Plummer said. The new technology will eliminate digital and analog storage, data volumes, data replication and error management.
To prepare for this, the CIO needs to look for DNA solutions for long-term data storage, study trial versions of DNA storage and make a plan for the transition to DNA storage as part of a cost optimization plan.
