Intel presented fresh research and solutions for smart factory
The terms "digital production", "industry 4.0", "smart factory" are often used as synonyms, but in fact all these concepts designate one trend: to replace work of worker and the machine separately on which that comes the unification of all elements of production into a single digital ecosystem in which together they work not only as the producers themselves and all their counterparties participating in the value chain.
Intel company at the exhibition at the end of April 2018 in Germany presented the results of its research of manufacturing enterprises and proposed a new paradigm for the implementation of projects in the era of Industry 4.0.
"Intelligent production" from "non-intelligent" differs not only with IoT-sensors but also with the availability of information systems that are capable to process date received from these sensors. And just today the informatization of production at this level really penetrates into enterprises.
The solution called "digital twin" offers a framework that links all this information together, providing a digital mirror of a real enterprise, and thus paves the way for more innovative production prototypes, optimization of the assembly line, product design, mass modifications and adaptation in accordance with the requirements of the customer or market.
The problem is that to determine where you need what sensors you need, you need someone to think in advance where and what sensors you need. And if he makes a mistake or does not anticipate the emergence of any contingency, then no number of sensors will not save from the consequences of this contingency.
The problem is that if the modernization was not completed, then the return on investment is unlikely to be high, and perhaps even negative. But this is not a problem of IoT technologies - it is a problem of long-term management strategy. So far, 53% of managers interviewed by experts for one of the World Economic Forum studies say that they are frightened by unpredictable ROI in similar projects.
