5 directions of IoT development
Experts of the consulting company Deloitte implemented a study and expect that by 2021 the world expenses for the Internet of things (IoT) will reach 1.4 trillion US$ and the number of connected devices will be more than 20 billion units. They decided to help organizations to orient themselves in what directions the Internet of things is developing. In total, five directions were singled out.
The first of these experts called security
Over the past two years, vendors have brought to the market numerous solutions designed to protect IoT-devices from attacks both at the hardware and network levels. Manufacturers of microprocessors introduced chips with built-in security features, and solution providers in the field of cybersecurity created products for IoT-networks.
The next direction is the platform
The development and deployment of IoT solutions will be simplified using software that will serve as a link between equipment, networks and IoT applications. In addition to horizontally oriented platforms designed to implement various applications, new vertical IoT solutions with pre-installed sensors, analytics tools and other components will appear on the market.
The third direction of development is the wireless technology for the transmission of small amounts of data over long distances (often up to 1 MB per month) LPWAN (low-power wide-area network). The Deloitte report notes that LPWAN networks are gaining popularity all over the world. Their advantages are that they allow you to connect to a single network of low-power IoT-devices that consume a small amount of power.
The fourth direction of development is artificial intelligence
Machine learning, computer vision are those tools that are increasingly used to analyze the flows of IoT generated data and automate operations. Most IoT platform vendors have complemented their AI solutions to optimize production processes, predictive maintenance.
As the fifth direction experts identified software products of peripheral analytics
They are tasked with processing, filtering and analyzing data as close as possible to their source, since it allows you to act remotely instead of forwarding these data to data centers or clouds for filtering and analysis.
