Business readiness to rethink way of working with big data

The razzle around the concept of big data is gone into decline, but many companies are still having strong interest for the analytical processing of big data (like Hadoop or Spark technologies). These technologies are still not ready to be used by any type of a company, but we can definitely see that they have become much closer to the practical activities of organizations. More than a quarter of chief information officers are sure that their companies will become stronger on market using business intelligence tools, which makes relevant technologies a key for beating competitors. However, only 9% of organizations have reached readiness to use big data and analytics. 

A recent report from AtScale 2018 on the evolution of the use of big data in organizations of different scales showed questions that require solutions for the further mass use of big data.

Dissociation of decentralized analytics. One of the main problems experienced by these organizations belongs to the category of those that are not solved for decades. This is a disconnection in the work with data and analytics and the lack of centralized approaches, which 55% of respondents admit. According to the report AtScale, this problem is better handled by companies working in the field of Internet services and utilities.

Self-service. Although in big data there is a trend towards a transition to the cloud, this path is not universal. According to the AtScale, 59% of respondents against last year's 53% moved their BD solutions in the cloud. 

The growing problem of managing data. Interrogated data experts are worried about the multiplication of the number of PO and platforms used and decentralization in working with DB. That is why, data management took the second place in 2018, moving from the fifth position in 2016. At the first position for the last three years there is a shortage of specialists.

Growing popularity of clouds for analytics solutions for big data, the main reason for anxiety in the coming years may be completely different things. According to AtScale, organizations will begin to worry about the difficulty of changing the provider if there are more effective offers.
