What determines domain name value and what is subdomain?
Domain valuation is both art and science. Domain names, as a rule, have certain and measurable data or features on which the assessment is based. For example, the amount of traffic that the domain receives, whether the domain name is a common word and whether it is spelled correctly, in which zone the domain is located, etc. This is a scientific component.
The value of a domain name is the sum of its own value and the value of its traffic. Traffic is easier to evaluate. It comes as a result of type-in (direct entry of a domain name in the browser URL), clicking on a link or bookmark, and searching. You can calculate how much each unique visitor costs (depending on how you get money from traffic), therefore, you can derive a simple formula that calculates the income you receive from domain traffic for a year (more about network analytics in this article) . In the current market, domains are often sold at a price of 3–5 times the domain’s annual income, similar to how firms sell at a price 5–7 times their cash turnover.
Intrinsic value is a much more complex thing. Here are some aspects that you consider when trying to define your own domain value: uniqueness, length, word count, singular or plural, whether there are numbers or dashes, domain zone, keyword value, spelling, synonyms, possible use, and etc. Here, industry experience and knowledge are more important than statistics.
The allocation of the theme of the site in a separate subdomain occurs if the development of the topic interferes with the main content.
From the user's point of view, there is no difference between allocating topics to directories or creating additional names. Visible differences relate to the way the address bar is written. In terms of site structure, the differences are huge. The subdomain is formally a separate site and has indexing.
For example, you have a site selling home plants and you have created a forum for user communication. Over time, the forum grows. There are new topics that are not related to indoor plants. Users are interested in talking about needlework, home recipes, parenting. Threads of needlework and children supplant the main topics in the search bar of the site.
Subdomains and SEO website promotion
If the content of the main site and the selected subdomains are different, the influence of additional subdomains is positive. From the distinguished names for diverse requests come new visitors.
Duplication of information from the main resource will lead to a drop in the rating of the site. If you do not develop additional names, do not fill with content, their rating drops and affects the rating of the main site.
